Lives and works in Madrid

Linked to the neo-metaphysical painting resulting from his participation in El retorno del hijo pródigo (The return of the prodigal Son).

exhibition. Linked to the gallerys My Name’s Lolita Art, Estampa y Siboney.

Damian Flores explores the ability that paint gives life and evokes memories. In his works, he creates his own world by mapping locations and dialogue between characters linked to their cultural memory.

Flores creates a pictorial space within the keys of traditional figuration with the ability to capture poetic unreality. His paintings are scenarios of the possible where he represents ideas and dreams without making distinctions between the lived and the imagined.

Flores through his paintings, carries out an approximation to the purist essence through a process of assimilation of photography in order to make an immediate and illusionistic image. The choice of these reference images make up a personal record of instantaneous travel, films and readings that answer to personal preferences and experiences.

Flores achieve a melancholic approach to culture through portraits to creators, and quotations from his works , which reveals the physical features and aesthetic key defined by the accurate analysis which distills the essence and filters the features that set the image.

The journey through his paintings has made him an expert collector of cityscapes and uninhabited, object-based and lonely architectures in cities such as: Havana, New York, Lisbon and Rome. Among the Spanish cities which have sparked his interest are: Valencia, Santander or Madrid, with which the author has had an intimate relationship. Flores invoked the memory of these places through fragmented frames and dreamlike lighting.

The stylistic eclecticism is perceived in the selection of constructions present in his paintings, in contrast to his manifested interest in the rationalist movement. The avant-garde keys to purity and essentiality are also reflected in the pictorial treatment of its architecture and portraits. In its creation stand constructions belonging to the Spanish rationalism, especially his monograph study dedicated to the city of Madrid.

Flores also explores the possibilities of the genre of painted architecture through the design of mental constructions, in the tradition of imaginary houses, devoted to artists like: Ledoux, Orson Wells or Pessoa.

His portrait gallery is made up of members of his inner circle and historical figures. The realization of these tributes are testimony to his complicity with plastic authors that motivate and inspire, architects , filmmakers and writers, such as Dalí , Venturi, Satie, Borges or Fellini.

Among the pictorial references the following painters are highlighted: Edward Hopper, Giorgio de Chirico or Giorgio Morandi.
